After much thinking of what to write today and taking heed to the suggestions of friends and family, I have finally come to terms with writing booklist suggestions for age groups! I will separate them by boy and girl, only because it can be more of a help to you knowing which book is meant for who.
Just so I have the ability to continue writing these booklists, I won’t just spit out hundreds of books suggestions…like I’m sure I possibly could. Instead I will give you five books/series in each booklist post! That way you can actually enjoy them…
Let me first say that most of these books, I have read, once or twice in my lifetime. Whether it was for school or free-time. Some of them have a tender place in my heart, and others make me laugh inside. So when someone says that books don’t affect you…they don’t know what they are talking about! The books I have read have affected me plenty.
The books listed are for ranges 5-8 years old, but that doesn’t mean older girls can’t read and enjoy them either! Also, even if your girls can’t read, they will still love and understand them, even if the books are just read to them! So whether these books are for personal reading or read-alouds, those very special girls in your life will enjoy them!
So without any further ado, I give you my favorite five books/series for girls 5-8 years old!
- Amelia Bedilia Series
These are some of the funniest and most enjoyable books I have read. Amelia makes the queerest things, like a sponge cake! She makes it out of REAL sponges! She does things exactly how they are asked, but in totally new ways!Your girls will love them…and ask for more! (At least, I did!). - The Josefina Story Quilt
This one had to affect me, because I remember this girl and a quilt. Nothing more. I haven’t read this in year’s, and honestly wouldn’t have remembered it, if I didn’t go back to look at my reading list as a child! All I can say, I still had a memory of this book… - The Rag Coat
Oh my…this was a beautiful story! I will NEVER forget this book! - Three Cousins Detective Club
Okay, I’ll let you in on a “little” secret…I read these books when I was like fourteen! Why? Because I never heard of them and I was just curious as to what the books/series entailed. Other than the Boxcar Children series, I never heard of other Christian mysteries, let alone for younger children! So you can say my interest was piqued… - Sarah, Plain and Tall
I remember reading this book and loving it…although I think it was this book that I didn’t want to read. After reading this book, I wanted to read more from the author, because it she was good!
My next booklist I post will be for boys, ages 5-8. Don’t worry…I have some very thrilling and adventurous suggestions for those young men in your lives!
I hope you enjoy these books with your daughters, just like I did!

Hi Cassandra
I love these suggestions. Books I would never have probably know about. I hope they are on Goodreads so that I can tag them as to read and not forget. ( Its a few years before our little Gigi is 5.)
The Three Cousins detective club sounds so cool, I will look it up. Thanks for linking in to the blog hop. Hope to catch you again soon. Cheers Julie
Thank you, Julie! You blessed me with that commment.
Oh, that would be nice to have them on Goodreads! That would be very helpful.
The Three Cousin Dectectvie Clube is really good! I’m glad you think it is good?
Yes, I hope to keep up with y’all!
Hi Cassandra
I just found the Three Cousins Detective club on goodreads, so its officially on my to read list. I am looking Christian mysteries. Have you ever read any of the Hannah Alexander books, they are for adults but a lovely Christian mystery/medical series. I love them. Great to meet you, Julie
Oh, goody!
No, I haven’t read an of Hannah Alexander books, BUT I will be looking into them! Thank you for the recommendation! I love mystery books and to find Christian ones is so hard.
My daughters are 7 and 8 and they LOVE the Amelia Bedilia series. We have Sarah Plain and Tall, but haven’t read it yet. That might need to be our next read-aloud.
Thanks for linking up to the Hearts for Home Blog Hop! Blessings.
Thank you! Yes, Sarah Plain and Tall is a good read! Happy to link up!
Thanks for this list – my daughter (who’s 9) hasn’t read ANY of those, although we have seen the Amelia Bedelia and Sarah, Plain and Tall ones. I’m really curious about the others. Thanks for linking into the Kid Lit Blog Hop. I’m now following you and I’ve sent you an email as well!
You’re welcome! I think even 9 year olds, would like those books, too! So glad you liked it! Thank you for putting together that Link Up!
