I went to the library a couple of weeks ago and had myself a little adventure. (Don’t you always have an adventure every time you go to the library?) This was my first time going to the library on my own. (Yes, I have my licence, now!) In fact, the library was my first time driving anywhere on my own. But what was really different, was getting to the library and not waiting outside the vehicle for the rest of the family to get out, and not being rushed in the library! (I can spend a WHOLE hour inside a library easily!) That is when I found this great series!
I never heard of this series before, but the title and picture caught my attention! At first I thought it was something for older children, and a little intriguing to me and my “older” brother. But when I pulled it off the shelf and did my method, I realized it was something much more than what my first impression was. So, I put it in my pile to take home.
After getting home, safe and sound, and had dinner, I pulled out of the books. I sat and read one, getting more intrigued. Then of course, once I read one, I had to read them all!
This is what I got out of it:
- Each story’s main character is a boy, of about 10-12 years old. At least old enough to understand what was happening.
- The story outline and the historic events were written well, and understandable for children. (Nothing gory, either).
- Boys will like them! (Isn’t this a big one?)
- The amount of history you can learn from these series are amazing!
- Easy-to-read, chapter books!
Personally, I learned some things about these events that I didn’t even know. What I think was most impressive, were that a couple of the books were about events that happened just recently! Like…
- The Attacks of September 11, 2001*
- Hurricane Katrina, 2005
She also has some others:
- The Battle of Gettysburg, 1863
- The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906
- The Sinking of the Titanic, 1912*
- The Shark Attacks of 1916
- The Bombing of Pearl Harbor, 1941*
Now I can’t label these books ”Christian,” but I did find them to be wholesome…at least the ones I read. (The things I read that were in there that didn’t make it “Christian” were the word “swore” and the phrase “what the…” (no swear word)).

Yes, Kayla would like them, I am sure! I said boy, because that is the main character, but girls will love them, too!
