Booklist for Boys, 9-12

This booklist has to be my favorite, because it has some of my favorite books! (Yes, I like boy’s book, too.) Adventurous, danger, and animals. The love of all boys!

The books I am about to list are at the top of my favorite books. I must also mention that they can be read by boys older than twelve, too.

  • Kingdom Series – Chuck Black
I love these books! I have never read such wonderful tales of knighthood, chivalry, and sword fighting than in these books. What is even more fascinating is that the stories are allegories of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelations. I assure you that while your boys read the Kingdom Series they will be instantly empowered to take up their sword and fight for the King and his Son! Teaching truth, godly character, and the penalty of sin, you and your son will just fall in love with these books, and carry your sword of truth.
  • Tree Castle Island
I listened to this book on audio, a long time ago. I remember laying at the side of my bed, my eyes closed imagining what was being read into something wonderful. We used to listen to a bunch of audios for school at bedtime. (That was the only thing I looked forward to when going to bed). The story is about a boy who ventured down the Okefenokee Swamp in his homemade canoe. After having damaged his canoe by an aggravated mama alligator, the boy makes camp on an island. While there he notices evidence of someone living there, and his adventure is just beginning.
  • Old Yeller
Of course, I had to add a classic! I love the story of Old Yeller. The dangers a young country boy comes face-to-face with are numerous and with Old Yeller by his side, he always has protection. The boy, Travis, didn’t want a dog, but after the dogs stubbornness of not leaving, Travis finds himself needing the dog. The ending always gets me.
  • The Yearling
Another audiobook I listened to…about a fawn and a lonely boy. After the fawns mother was killed to save the boy’s mom’s life, the boy adopts the fawn and they become fast friends. Random attacks from Slewfoot, an old bear, causes a feud among the boy’s family and one of his closest friend’s family. Many things happen in the life of the boy; sad things and happy things. This story beautifully illustrates growing up, and maturing into a man.
  • The American Adventures (Series)
This series is amazing! It is the boy version of the series I highlighted from last week, Sisters in Time. This series has about 50 books in all. I love how this series introduces events in history through the view of young boys and shows how the events affects their life and the lives of others. These are packed full of danger and adventure!

All these books are easy to read and understand. They are even captivating!

What are some books that your boys really love? I’d love to hear, because good books are hard to find.

Would you please post the author or a link for the Kingdom Series? I looked for it on Amazon and all I found were …. things that were most definitely not appropriate… lol Thank you!

    • Oh, sure! I also have the books in the amazon widget, beneath the book suggestions. The Kingdom Series are the black books. Thanks for letting me know!

My AdBlock works TOO well, apparently… couldn’t see the widget! Thanks for the quick response. Added them to my son’s wishlist on Amazon (from which the grandparents like to randomly send surprises – hooray!). I can’t keep this boy in books; we’re stationed overseas with the military and I’m sure he’ll quickly blow through the resources in our tiny library. Thanks again for the suggestions!
